俄羅斯干預烏克蘭所屬克里米亞引發國際情勢緊張，為了安撫盟邦，美軍派出飛彈驅逐艦與戰機前往黑海與東歐。

美國海軍發布聲明說，駐地中海第六艦隊所屬的特魯斯頓號（USS Truxtun，DDG103）驅逐艦6日離開希臘索達灣（Souda Bay）的港口，將與羅馬尼亞和保加利亞部隊進行聯合演練。

美國海軍表示：「這項任務在特魯斯頓號由美國出發前早已預先安排好。」

波蘭國防部長塞莫尼亞克6日也表示，美國軍方下週將派遣12架F-16戰鬥機和300名軍事人員到波蘭，參加軍事演習。由於鄰國烏克蘭爆發危機，這項演習的規模已經擴大。

美軍在東歐立陶宛原有4架F-15戰機與150名軍人，美國國防部決定加派6架F-15戰機與60名軍方人員到立陶宛，加強巡弋波羅的海國家空域。
