全球輪胎業龍頭普利司通(Bridgestone Corp.)17日發布新聞稿宣布，因看好中南美市場今後對輪胎的需求將持續增加，故旗下巴西子公司Bridgestone do Brasil Industria e Comercio Ltda.(BSBR)計畫對位於巴伊亞的輪胎工廠投資6,300萬美元(約65億日圓)擴增生產設備，目標為在2015年下半年將巴伊亞工廠日產能較現行提高4成(約2,800條)至1.01萬條；該座巴伊亞工廠主要生產乘用車及小型貨車用輪胎。

據日經指出，隨著汽車大廠紛紛搶進巴西市場，也帶動當地輪胎需求持續走揚，而除了普利司通之外，日本輪胎大廠住友橡膠工業(SRI)也投下約330億日圓在巴西設廠。據報導，除了日產汽車(Nissan)位於巴西的工廠將在2014年啟用外，本田(Honda)也計劃於2015年在巴西興建生產小型車的工廠。
