南韓外交部官員透露，南韓政府計劃設立一個單位，專責推動對非洲貿易等關係，這個單位將協助企業拓展非洲市場，並與非洲高層建立人脈。

韓聯社引述不願具名官員的消息報導，外交部已責成韓國對外經濟研究院（KIEP）研究成立這個單位的可行性，並請託財政部研擬相關預算。這位官員說：「要用三、四十年前的老套來維持與非洲外交關係是不夠的。外交部必須扮演強有力的管制塔，且應有一個策劃部門提供支援。」

目前南韓對非外交工作遠遠落後其他大國，目前僅在撒哈拉以南非洲46個國家中17個國家派駐使館，遠不如美國的46個、中國的43個，及日本的25個。
