印尼央行12日意外調升基準利率1碼至7.5%，存款利率也由5.5%調高至5.75%。彭博資訊訪調的25位經濟學家中，僅一位預測升息1碼，其餘均預估按兵不動。包括本次升息，印尼央行自6月初以來已調升基準利率1.75個百分點。

政府官員正努力因應印尼盾重貶、物價節節升高及外資不斷減少的衝擊。花旗集團經濟學家阿曼（Helmi Arman）說：「最近的貿易數字，顯示經常帳赤字短期內可能無法快速好轉，穩定或緊縮政策仍是必要措施。」

儘管央行祭出緊縮政策，印尼盾12日收盤仍貶0.36%，報11,605印尼盾兌1美元。印尼盾今年來已重貶逾17%，在彭博資訊追蹤的11個亞洲主要貨幣中表現最弱。
