馬達加斯加衛生部今天表示，最近數週已有39人死於老鼠傳播的瘟疫，這種鼠疫威力甚強，三天即能奪命。首位患者11月前就死亡，但政府11月底才宣布出現疫情。

法新社報導，衛生部發布的聲明說：「馬達加斯加這波疫情目前影響（全國112個區中的）五個區。總計有86人感染鼠疫，其中39人不治。」

在首都塔那那利佛（Antananarivo），衛生部醫師說，90%病例被診斷為肺鼠疫，這種惡性菌株可以在三天內奪走患者性命，幾乎沒有時間讓抗生素發揮作用。
