「瑞士特快車」近兩年無法問鼎ATP World Tour Masters 1000系列賽冠軍，這一次他在辛辛那提突破了在此層級的冠軍荒，同時保持著對西班牙老將David Ferrer的不敗紀錄。

上一次Roger Federer在ATP World Tour Masters 1000系列賽中奪冠，要追溯到2012年，正好是辛辛那提這一站，此為職業生涯第80座單打冠軍。

他在決賽以6-3、1-6、6-2擊敗Ferrer，目前面對西班牙老將是16場對戰全勝，今年連兩站ATP World Tour Masters 1000系列賽擊敗Ferrer。

Federer同時是辛辛那提網男單賽史最多冠選手，分別在2005、2007、2009、2010、2012與2014年共6次奪冠，目前6次打進決賽都拿下冠軍。

Ferrer生涯第一次打進辛辛那提網賽冠軍戰，為賽史第六位晉級決賽的西班牙選手，目前只有Rafael Nadal在此有奪冠紀錄。
