日本輪胎協會JATMA對於『經過長期使用輪胎的檢查及更換』

發表了建議法規；這項建議法規是對於經過長期使用的輪胎

(1) 對於使用開始後經過五年以上的輪胎.請到輪胎店進行檢查.
(2) 對於製造後經過十年以上的輪胎.則建議更換.這是日本輪胎協會所做出來的自主性的判斷。

輪胎的壽命會因為走行距離與行駛狀態而有所改變，不能說都一樣。
但是如果把安全殘溝當做目標的話就可以測量出輪胎壽命了。乘用車新品輪胎一般來說會有7~9mm左右的溝深，而溝深減低至1.6mm時，輪胎上就會出現稱之為安全殘溝的標記。那就是表示要換胎了。
即便輪胎只有出現一處安全殘溝的標記時，建議就需要立即更換新輪胎。(道路交通管理處罰條例有明文規定)
